Rachel Macdonald Photography

My eyes were opened to the magic of photography while travelling

through Europe in 1994. On returning to London I completed several

black & white photography courses, which led to portrait work.

I came home to Auckland, New Zealand in 1998 and continued

nannying part-time, photographing the children whenever possible.

I was soon getting requests to take photographs of other

children and found a demand for natural, creative portraits.

I could earn a living doing something I loved, whilst continuing

to work with children, creating and capturing memories.

My nannying experience has proved useful at every sitting!

The sittings take place outdoors as I prefer to use natural light.

I like the softer feeling created by such light and children seem

at their happiest in natural and often familiar surroundings.

The stunning beaches of Auckland make wonderful locations.

Between the years 2000 -2007 I turned my passion for photography

into a successful business photographing children and their families.

In 2008 I moved to Dunedin, a vibrant little city that I proudly call home.

My portfolio includes work published in several magazines,

newspapers, flyers, posters, books, websites and a calendar.

I seek to capture a child's personality on film, those intimate moments

as they explore their world and relationships between family members.
